I am just reading up on wordpress. I figured it was time to get out of the internet dark ages and try to catch up some with the real world. What I am going to try and offer is a site that will allow users to register and have their own blogging "site" or space really. I don't want to use subdomains, but rather have them be http://www.mysite.com/username... Additionally, I don't want them to be able to change the theme or template as I plan to have google ads or the like on the site. Can this be accomplished with wordpressMU?

I am also interested in how well bbpress works or doesn't work with wordpressMU as I will also be looking for some sort of forum solution.

And one last thing, I intend to make the blog piece a "subscription" sort of thing. So users can sign up for free to use the forum, but must pay a subscription fee to get their own blog. Can something like that be accomplished as well?

    * You choose subdirectories or subdomains on installation.
    * Admin panel allows you to set which themes are available to users
    * it is possible to get google ads working on loads of themes, so you could offer more than one theme
    * bbPress and WPMU work pretty seamlessly, my installation impliments both
    * not sure, have a search around, it has been discussed recently

I would recommend that you search around the forums here for a while as most of your questions have probably been answered already. You could even set up a test installation for you to play around with.

Actually the poster would choose subdirectories as they want the blogs setup like that.

The site admin is the one who installs the themes. The end users just choose between those available. I'd just make sure each theme has the adverts in there.

There are instructions both here and over at the bbpress site on how to add in bbpress. It's fairly easy.

I'd remove the signup.php page out of your WPMu or edit it and put in a die(); function near the top. As the site admin, you can create the blogs yourself fromt eh back end. That would probably be best.

    Hope thi shelps,

And get out of the WWW habit.

YourSite.com is the way to go, and MU "expects" that.
