I am trying to set up a site that has its own look and logo, but that would allow the MU users to determine their own looks with WP templates. The only thing I want as a constant through the site is that at the top of every sub-site a small bar identifying it with a small version of our logo as part of our main site, and I want 1 Google ad block to run on the right hand site everywhere. Can I somehow program this in? What, and where?

You need to visit the codex, and learn all about the WP template system.

You can edit the MU-Admin-Bar ( http://wpmudevorg.wordpress.com/project/MU-Admin-Bar ) like I did. (see http://www.blogpharm.com ) I just added my site's logo to it, but I'm sure you could add an adsense in there too.

I want to develop similar site you done, but not with blogging aspects but for more like personal sites, with guestbook and photogallery and theme selection options. What do you think i should do and start from where? WordPress MU will be best solution i am guessing? You site is more like.. what i am looking for, so it is better to ask you what had done with wordPress to get this face of BlogPharm.com.. Thanks in advance :)
