Import from wordpress.com not working (10 posts)

    Hi,

When I export a blog running on wordpress.com and import it into my MU install, I get no errors -- after turning safe_mode off and fixing /blogs.dir/ permissions issue... The process continues after upload with the questions who to allocate the posts to and then finishes with an 'All done!' success message.

But... no pages, posts or anything appear in the new blog.

Anybody any idea what's happening here?

    Which option did you pick?

hi andrea, what option do you mean?

after the upload has completed (and the xml file gets writen to /bolgs.dir/x/files/...) the process returns with the question about who to allocate the posts and pages to. wether i choose admin or any other user/editor, the result is one of these two:

    A. in some cases the process finnishes with the success mesage
    B. in other cases the process does not continue but the browser suddenly asks me where to save the offered download file called 'admin.php' ?!?!

i have not figured out what makes the difference between these results. at any rate, in both cases, no posts or pages are imported but the original 'hello world' post is always removed.

Well, in the build of MU I have, there's no "Import from Wordpress.COM" on the import page. There *is* an import from a stand-alone WP.

I would imagine there would be a bit of differences using that to grab your wp.COM posts.

ok, i see what you mean. i'm not being very clear...

no, exactly the same problem occurs when i use an xml exported from a regular WP install as with an xml exported from wordpress.com...

i have tested some more and removed all plugins from both the /plugins/ and /mu-plugins/ directories. after that, in case of a import from a standalone WP 2.1.2 install, some posts get imported, most will turn up empty (not even a name) or as drafts and the 'hello world' post remains. in case of an xml exported from wp.com, all pages and posts get imported properly but the author assignment just doesn't work. always, after the 'Assign Authors' page, i get the admin.php file as a download !???

something seriously is wrong with my setup. some php/server settings that are messing with things here?

Do the posts by title get listed during the import?
Did you the akismet queue before exporting?

"posts get imported properly but the author assignment just doesn't work"
Okay, that I've seen as an issue before.

No, the posts do not get listed during import. In both cases, after a short upload period, the browser shows me the author assignment page with the option to select a user from the users set for the current blog. No listing of posts what-so-ever.

So the assignment issue is known? Any idea if it is still in the SVN? Is it worth trying the release candidate - as I am still on a testing setup...

andrea_r, thank you for your help on this.

i do not use akismet: no queue to delete.

i have downloaded the latest wpmu candidate from trunk and the problem is still there. if i import an xml from a standalone blog running on wp 2.1.2 or a wordpress.com blog, it fails misserably.

if i export a blog running on the same MU install and then import it again on another (test)blog on that MU install, it works fine! except for the author assignment not working properly (found patch here: http://trac.mu.wordpress.org/ticket/435 ).

so it must be some incompatibility issue in the generated xml files? if so, to what version of wp do i need to upgrade my standalone install, so the export/import will work with the latest MU from trunk?

    thanks for any suggestions :)

Upgrade it to 2.3, then export.
