WordPress MU

Does anyone have a clue where these messages originate from? I keep on getting floods of them, sent to e-mail addresses not associated with the sites, and asking for stuff that is not even posted anywhere. I already asked my hosting comapny, but they too seem baffled. I was wondering if they could have something to do with the Javascript Clock on the sites?

Here are a few messages:

A user tried to go to http://fridayflyer3.coffeennews.com/crossdomain.xml and received a 404 (page not found) error. It wasn't their fault, so try fixing it.
They came from http://www.fridayflyer3.coffeennews.com/

A user tried to go to http://coffeennews.com/blog/2007/09/14/world-motor-sport-council-decision-article-151c-international-sporting-code-%E2%80%93-vodafone-mclaren-mercedes/time.txt and received a 404 (page not found) error. It wasn't their fault, so try fixing it.
They came from http://coffeennews.com/wp-content/themes/default/images/25.swf

A user tried to go to http://politics.newsturtle.com/2007/10/14/time.txt and received a 404 (page not found) error. It wasn't their fault, so try fixing it.

What do you mean - where do the messages originate? They come from wordpress because its getting extremely messed up urls - They don't seem to be coming from your front page (or FF doesn't show them in its list of links when you check the links on the page)

I understand, but it is asking for files that are not supposed to be there, files that don't even exist. I never made nor posted a 25.swf, a time.txt or some jpgs it is asking for. That is the big question: Why do these messages come up if there is nothing of the sort. Could it be related to a plugin or something?

It's script kiddies looking for files.
They don't exist, so nothing to worry about.

I'm guessing spammers. Does itr make sense? Not really, but it is an explanation. It happens.

Do note that http://www.fridayflyer3.coffeennews.com/ is an incorrect URL and your DNS and/or webserver may not know how to serve it. May need to remove the 'www' bit if it's included within a link.

My Hosting company Dreamhost just found that the culprit was in the 404.php file in the NewYorker template, sending me an error message whenever someone or some thing gets the slightest error.

Thank you, dutchy4c! I've been getting those error messages for YEARS and couldn't figure out where they were coming from. I even switched hosts (coincidentally), but the problem stayed with the site. Ugh. Finally looked at the 404 file and found the culprit! Again, thanks for posting.
