Problem logging in (11 posts)

    Hi,

I installed the latest MU wordpress on a local machine (windows XP, XAMPP installed for php & mysql).

After the installation, I can't login to the system with the username "admin" and the password provided after the installation. There's no error such as "Error: Incorrect password", I simply referred back to the login page.
    Cookies are enabled.

What else can I look for?
    Thanks a lot.

In my very limited experience this can be caused by browser security settings. Possibly worth trying a different browser.

Are you sure you installed it correctly? :)

bigsur: That's wired. I'm unable to login using Firefox, Safari (for windows), IE6 and IE7. Opera is the only browser where I can login.
What can block these browsers from logging in?

If it's any help, the URL after the login attempt is wp-login.php?action=auth&redirect_to=%2Fwpmu%2Fwp-admin%2F

Another thing: When logged in (using Opera), and trying to active a theme I've downloaded to wp-content/themes - my Apache dies (using XAMPP 1.5.5).
Some strange things going on here... :-(

    Any idea guys?
    Thanks again.

First, try getting the latest code from trac. http://trac.mu.wordpress.org/

There are a couple of bugs in the newset download on the front page.

Actually, you might want to go back a couple revisions as the absolute latest is way new.

I've installed the 1.2.5a version of WordPress MU. Where can I find previous versions? It's not available in the download page http://mu.wordpress.org/download/

If you’re still able to login with Safari but not with other browsers I would suggest that you look at browser configuration settings before uninstalling/reinstalling Wordpress. Could it be something as simple as cookie, security, proxi/exception settings?

The problem I had with one machine was resolved by adding my wordpress URL to the allow list in Firefox (Mac version) and allowing all cookies for that site.

I'm able to login using Opera 9.24, not Safari.

I tried to clear Firefox's private data, but I still can't login.
I have cookies enabled for all websites, and I'm not using proxy.

What else can I check for? I'm lost :(
Maybe WordPress MU is not the right solution for me?

    As I said above:
