Bridging to SMF (4 posts)

What is the best method for using WPMU as a front end for a website and bridging WPMU with SMF forums?

I want users to be able register and/or log in just once, but be able to jump from the front page or a blog and then to the forum without having to register or log in separately.

SMF "prefers" to handle registration functions. This presents a slightly bigger mountain to climb with MU vice WP.

However, it is quite possible to do so as long as you're comfortable with how both systems function in terms of registration and user authentication.

SMF bases their credentials off of sha1, while WP is based off of MD5, which is something to consider as well.

It can be done though. I've got a local site in development and it's working quite nicely on it. Originally I had bridged it with Vanilla, but went back to SMF.

I have no idea what sha1 or MD5 are. I'm looking for a canned solution, like a plugin or a bridge such as TinyMCE. I just don't get any really promising google results when I do a search. The only positive response I can find is a blog entry about using a bridge called Enigma, but that website seems to be down. But thanks for the reply.

The website I am working on currently uses Joomla, but that CMS is awful and its Fireboard plugin looks and functions as if it were designed by cavemen. I've never seen a piece of software so unintuitive.

Only good for WP standalone, but I can answer any question you have about it.

Post in the forum and say hi. ;)
