Haven't look through TRAC so I don't have an answer, but was wondering what others think about the new hashing system for passwords in wordpress and whether it is coming into WPMU. I know that bbPress already implemented it in TRAC and integrations without it in WPMU will not work. Something to keep in mind for all you out there with bbPress as your forum might break if you upgrade to the "next" version if WPMU doesn't change the password hash.

IIRC, Donncha said the other day that he was keeping up with WP releases now, vice always on top of the bleeding edge.

Makes sense to me in terms of the actual releases being more stable, tested, etc.

I don't see why 2.5 would be any different.

Actually looks like Donncha said something else:

There's a ticket on the hash system as well:

Yeah, he said he was keeping up with releases. That's what I said.

So, when 2.5 comes out as released, he'll sync with it.

What is exactly changed in the userDB ? The layout iwll be the same and only the hash will be redone and the code for that part is changed in the corefiles ?

It changes the password hash to a more secure format. That is my understanding.

I worry if the new pwd hash would block the wpmu and bbpress integration if bbpress wouldn't upgrade the pwd hash correspondingly.

If the hash is changed in WPMU, it will be fine as bbPress will have a new version that already has it. Right now, wordpress trac and bbPress trac both have it and integrate fine.
