As the posts on this are old, I wondered if there is new development on this:
I would simply like to:
1. be able to set specific Categories that are displayed by default on every new User Blog after Registration.
2. be able to control the other items on each User Blog, such as links.
I do not need Blogs to vary at all. I want every user Blog to be the same. I just want to set these global sitewide variables once and leave it at that.
Is this possible and if so are they hacks or a plugins?
Many thanks
Paul
This one seems to be pretty popular with some following:

Thanks Trent.
Forgive me../.I am a newbie. But this and all the others I seem to find are about Tags, rather than Categories.
I am looking to set the Categories that show as Menu Items on each Blog.
They are not the same, right?
Thanks
#1. hacking is the only way i know how.
#2. you can chage the default links by hacking as well, but can't limit users from removing them. at least not from the blogroll.
you *could* hardcode an are of links in the theme, outside the widget loop.

if it helps, it's only a light hack. :)

OK. I get it. Don;t be a coward and have a go.
I'll do it I promise.
If I don;t report back in 48 hours you know I'm in hacker's hospital :)
It would be nice indeed to have a plugin where a administrator of the site can insert info to and where blogowner can decide if he wants to add it using a widget or not.
Some sort of "pre-page generation" for bloggers.
