Not sure if you could ever get this to work for the actual username... nor why you'd want to but there are some handy fields in the profile page that you would probably be able to use.

After you are registered (with a non special characterd user name, Ex, Steve) when you go to the profile setting you can set the following fields:(with examples)

    Last name: French
    First name: Steve
    Nick name: Ilike#
and then after you save changes you can select a drop down that allows you to choose how to display your name publicly. ( ie, Steve French - French, Steve or Ilike#)

I'm not 100% on whether or not you can use illegal characters for nicknames but if you can anywher it would be in the Nickname filed.

After you have updated your nickname , save the changes and then click on the display name publicly as dropdown and then select your nickname then it should work display that on the blog instead of your username.

*Note: you have to save your profile changes after you set your nickname then choose display as, then save again.

    Hopefully this helps

The reason i wanted a character in the username

    For instance

    KeithAlmli seems too cluttered

So i would like to make usernames Keith.Almli

    and so on.. or Bill.Gates

If you were to set up the proper first and last name values and set display as. Then the name would appear on the Blog as Bill Gates and they would only have to log in with the username BillGates
