Alright, I'm new to MU and I've looked all around the forums but haven't found quite what I'm looking for. I'm sure I'll get blasted but here it goes anyway...

I want to have all the options available to me as the main administrator of the root domain. I want other to be able to sign up for subdomains but I want to force a certain theme and not allow changes to it or their plugins. Is this possible? Seems like it should be but haven't been able to figure it out.

Sorry to all you WP wizards that have to wade through my simple, basic and probably already asked question. :)

Howdo vez. I'll try help you if i can but i dont know much myself. To force a certain theme theme then you could just have one them available to folks i suppose (SITE ADMIN>>THEMES) and just let one theme be available. This theme i suppose you would have to rename (via ftp etc) 'default' (rename the other default theme to something else first)

ah i never saw the 'not allow changes to it' Actually they cant change it can they? I wish mine bloody could lol. Use Plugin Commander (see google) to only allow whatever plugins. I hope this helps a bit but i might have missed your point completely (oooer)

"I want to force a certain theme"

Have only one available or enabled, and make sure it is in the folder named "default". the theme itself does not have to be called that.

So if I only allow one theme, does that mean I have to use that theme for my main site?

It seems like all the admin has to play by all the same rules as everyone else. It says I have a 10mb upload limit. I definitely understand limiting other users but I wouldn't think that would apply to the admin. Am I wrong about this?

    No, it doesn't.

You can upload another theme, just don't activate it under Site Admin -> Themes.

Once you have another theme uploaded, you can edit the individual blog from Site Admin -> Blogs, and specifically allow a theme for only that blog.

You can also edit other things on that page.

Have you played with this at all, or even looked at it?

"So if I only allow one theme, does that mean I have to use that theme for my main site?"

Nope. If a theme is disabled ofr all, you can enable it for one blog by gong to the blog list (Site admin -> Blogs) and clickin ghte "edt" button for that blog. On the right of the next menu will be a list of disabled themes with a checkbox by the name.

"It says I have a 10mb upload limit. I definitely understand limiting other users but I wouldn't think that would apply to the admin."

If you're site admin you have FTP access and can upload whatever you like, right?

on that edit page I mentioend above, you can also change that amount for an individual blog. remember the site admin owns the main blog by default.

    I knew that was coming...

I have spent some time testing and playing around but am still getting a handle on it. I really appreciate your help andrea and even you lunabyte even though I think you're making fun of me and frustrated by my lack of wp-mu knowledge. :)

I was just hoping to save a few hours by learning from you all instead of fumbling around on my own. Thanks again!

I wasn't poking fun, honestly, but it just seemed you hadn't really looked around and played with it.

Mainly because, at least to me, it would seem logical that most people who have installed it would have at least looked at the site admin pages, reviewed potential settings, looked at editing a blog, etc.

However, maybe that's not the case and shows an area where the interface needs to be looked at and improved.
