hello guys im planning to setup a online community and i will be using the wpmu.. my question is how much web space I might need to provide each users a blog?

A dedicated server with 80GB lasted me over a year and up to 1000 education blogs, but its 1GB memory ended up being the limit I hit first. Get more than that if you expect your site to be reasonably busy.

Web space is nothing; memory is what you need. besides, the blogs themselves don't take up webspace - uploaded files do. ;)
(Clarifying: yes, the blgos DO take up space in the databse and sometimes that counts towards your webspace.)
Also, you can start with a VPS.
