Pages not displaying (55 posts)

When I and members create pages, links to these pages display on our sidebars.

When when I create a page for the top level site -- http://blogpeoria.com -- no links are displayed and the pages themselves don't display, and the first page of the top-level site appears in it's place.

    Any suggestions?

Sounds like your "top level" site's theme doesn't have built-in links to pages. What happens if you add a Pages widget to a sidebar?

I am using a Pages Widget.

OK, this isn't about the Widget or the sidebar code.

check out the front page to my blog: http://blogpeoria.com

I'm running a menu bar with a list of the pages. The pages are showing on member blogs.

When I try to manage the Pages I've created for the top-level blogs, they are showing up as being in "draft" mode, but there's no "publish" button anymore to publish them. I can OPEN these Pages manually by pasting the URL into a browser.

And I am logged in as administrator.

Are you using the new backend? Yeah, you have to change the status to publish and hit "save".

Actually, I think even in the old backend, it's the same.

Andres: I am logged in as the admin. I am usign WPMu 1.2.1.

I wrote several pages for http://blogpeoria.com

Links to pages will not display ANYwhere -- on the menubar or in the sidebar, whether through a widget or the regular sidebar.

I am NOT given the "publish" option on the "write page."

I am frustrated, because I have several usefull pages in mind.

    Any help will be appreciated.

Forgive my endless question, but I can't see your screen.

Are in they in the Manage pages area? Can you edit them?

What about going into the db and changing the status there? (a pain, I know...)

Also, if you're as far back as 1.2.1, you really need to upgrade.

I know, I know. I need to upgrade. I swear to god that I will do so when I get a day free. I am in the manage pages area. And if you tell me where to go in the DB to change them, I will.

Let me answer as many questions as I can.

While logged in as administrator (I know because I logged out and logged is as "admin"), I go to the Dashboard > Write > Page area. Below the text entry screen is the "Save and Continue Editing" button and the "Save" button. On the left, I have the two radio button options under the header "Page Options:" "Daft" and "private"

I have NO way at ALL to publish a page. I also cannot publish any Page that I have written and saved.

There has GOT to be a fix for this, because it is really limiting the functionality of this blog.

You will most likely have to dig back in the forums. 1.2.1 was so long ago, and so many things have changed since then. Not to mention anyone who could potentially resolve that issue has nothing to troubleshoot with, as they've kept up with upgrades.

You can always try the old faithful method. Turn off all plugins, see what happens, add them back in one by one until it breaks.

    Other than that, upgrade.

    Thpt!

I'll do that as soon as I'm moved to a new host, which should be in about a week.

    OK ... I' ve upgraded to 1.5.1.

I have the same problem. I cannot set the status to "published" and click "save' all that does is submit the page for review. I am the site's admimistrator.

I am convinced this is a "role" issue. I also cannot delete "draft" posts. I do not have the avility to set a static page as the front page of this blog.

    No idea, Bill.

Can you get to the Site Admin menus? If so, have you tried adding another user (another you) as a Site Admin?

Have you looked in the db to see if the permissions were set right there?

No can do. I created a NEW user, gave that user admin rights, and all it will do is save pages as "private."

I still lack the ability to set a static page as the front page of blogpeoria.com.

Please note that ho member blog has these problems.

How would I check the permissions in the DB?

    Look in the wp_usermeta table.
    Click Broswe.
Find the record that says wp_1_capabilities. There's a field on the same line there that should say the blog_id is 1.
    Then look for "meta value".
It show have this exact value:

    a:1:{s:13:"Administrator";b:1;}

C&P that if you have to.

I'll check this when mediatemple's account manager comes back online.

    Oy.

    Found it:

    Yep, wp_1_capabilities is a:1:{s:13:"Administrator";b:1;}

But I am seeing no column for blog_id

I do, however, see that the umeta_id is set at 5 and the user_id is set to 1.

That database info looks 100% fine. What exactly is your issue again, as this thread has gotten big and strayed from original topic...

THanks for taking a look a it.

Basically this: Logged in an an administrastor, I cannot create pages on the front-level domain blogpeoria.com. Basiclaly, I am locked out of any abiity to publish a page. All I can do is save for a draft If I click on "published" and try to save a page, all is does is save the page for review.

Other issues that MAY be related: I do not ave the ability to set a static page as the front page for the domain blogpeoria.com.

No0w, I can write pages and set a page as the front page for ALL OTHER member blogs. Just not "blogpeoria.com."

If you mean the publish button is missing, that's definitly a role issue saying it doesn't think your allowed to edit posts. Open up wp-includes\capabilities.php and uncomment line 269 that looks like this:
    //echo "Checking cap $cap";

Then go to the write page and it should output some stuff to the browser that you should paste here. Also, uncomment line 384, it will echo some more useful info.

The worthless file manager provided by mediatemeple doesn't number the lines. So, I'm going to have to open it in something I don't currently have on the computer I'm having to use.

I went back to the original file afterwards.
