What plugins do people recconmend?

I am building a custom theme for my site at http://www.ourlordsblogs.com. I currently have an empty shell and would now like to start adding features.
I have also lost the code for latest posts, where can i find this?

You may want to skim the plugins subforum here as well as there's a number of these threads where folks have listed their suggestions.
