WordPress MU

I'm trying to install MU in the root. For some reason, the default permalink structure gets 'blog' added in front of it. How can I change 'blog' to something like 'news'?

it does that with directory style installation, as far as changing it I question it its possible, or well easy. It'spossible with eneough hackery of MU but not easily I imagine by the fact that if you search for this these questions go unanswered.

Thanks. I just created a blog called news, create different news categories, and will go from there. I guess on the home page, I will just modify a theme that will pull the different news categories and main site info.
