How to add emoticon chooser in comments template?

Hi, Currently my site replaces :) ;) :D and such with the correct emoticons when typed but for one theme I'm eorking on i want to add a Emoticon chooser next to the comments textarea.

Is there a simple one I can modify?

Where can I find one? or instructions on how to write it?

Is there a plugin?

Is it possible to add more emoticons to the included ones? how?

yes, they exist already and there's plenty variations out there.
