Several important problems after upgrade to 2.6 (9 posts)

    I was running a 1.3. installation.

I started a NEW WPMu 2.5 RC 1 installation on a new server.

    All seemed well.

I imported the rather large number of tables from previous installation.

I uploaded all the blogs.dir directories and files I needed for membefr blogs.

Then the following problems were noticed.

    1. No member blog has any blogrolls, nor did they have any categories.

    2. I STILL cannot create new Pages in the ftont level blog at blogpeoria.com. This is simply NO "publish" button. Existing Pages will not display on that blog, either. I tested this BEFORE I imported the tables, and I could create AND display Pages.

    3. I am getting emails telling me tghere are comments in moderation. Other members are getting comments in moderation. But when we click on "comments" in the dashboard, no comments are listed, moderated or otherwise. Clicking on the "Awaiting Moderation" does not get a list to show either.

    4. After I installed the new WPMu installation, I could set a Page as a static page, which was displayed to those who visited blogpeoria.com. That option has completely vanished upon importing the database.

Bad: You installed 2.6, then restored a 1.3 database.

Should have: Completely migrated the 1.3 install, then upgraded.

    OK.

How to fix? I can uninstall 2.5, then install 1.3. restore the databases and THEN upgrade. This is the sort of thing I wanted to avoid ...

Well, you have a backup, right? Restore that on the new site, and then do the upgrade.

I full backup I did from my previous host is fubar, due to that server going down all the time. I can still access it though.

I can simply download all the old v1.3 WPMU files, and move them over to the new server, delete the database on the new server, create a new one, but it would have a different name, wouldn't it? Won't that make it NOT work ...

    6 years later, I'm still asking n00b questions ...

AH... but it would work if I change the data in config.php to reflect new database information.

Someone tell me if I'm wrong.

I think I found the answer to my own question. I found it on the wordpress.org site:

    `Easy answer for most installations:

    * If database and URL remains the same, you can move by just copying your files and database.
    * If database name or user changes, edit wp-config.php to have the correct values.
    * If you want to test before you switch, you must temporarily change "siteurl" and "home" in the database table "wp_options" (through phpMyAdmin or similar).
If you had any kind of rewrites (permalinks) setup you must disable .htaccess and reconfigure permalinks when it goes live. '

Umm, I don't think I was doing anything out of the ordinary with my permalinks. Here is a typical permalink:

Any advise before I do this tonight when I get home from work?

FYI -- I found this post by way of Google after having a problem with no comments showing up on my recently upgraded 2.6 WPMU site.
Solution was: I had forgotten to go into Site Admin, Upgrade, Upgrade All Sites. Once that step was done, all the comments appeared and everyone is happy again. :)
