Disabling Activation Emails (7 posts)

How can you remove activation emails, so the database tables are created and the password is emailed immediately upon registration? Users find them annoying and they yield no security benefits; all they do is save empty blogs in the database, which I don't mind.

You would have to code a plugin for it. There's a premium one that lets you enter the password during signup, but i think you still need to activate via email (which i highly recommend).

Thanks for the quick answer, MrBrian. I found this post by donncha that says you just need to add a "site_option" to disable email validation. It sounds easy, but I'm not sure what it means.

So with that plugin, someone can set their own password and then receive only the activation email? That sounds like a better idea. I'm going to sign up for that some time, for that, the comment and post indexer, and the database splitter (thinking ahead).

    Need this badly.
Has anyone figured it out yet?

This cryptic Donncha post from a year ago is racking my brains:

OK, email validation during signup is staying. If anyone wants to make it optional, all you have to do is bypass the validation stage based on a site_option, and add a checkbox to wpmu options.

I politely point out the link a few posts up. You could also say 'please' in your request as well.

A work around was suggested in this thread previously as well:
