I've dug though the forums, and every response I see at least a year old.

domain.com/blog/blogname/ -- this works fine, I can browse any page.

but when I try to post a comment, it wants to take me to --
    domain.com/blog/blogname/wp-comments-post.php
and I get an internal server error.

I obviously just have a bad mod_rewrite issue...

here's what I have that is obviously wrong.
    RewriteRule ^wp-comments-post.php(.*) /blog/wp-comments-post.php [L]

    any thoughts?help?
    thanks.

Why is that line even in your htaccess? In a default installation, it should not be there at all.

Do you have an upgraded site? Compare your htacces with this
    http://trac.mu.wordpress.org/browser/trunk/htaccess.dist

The only line that shoudl be different is
    RewriteBase BASE/

    will be
    RewriteBase /

    in .htaccess.

I was following the comments found in older posts.
I'll try that htaccess.dist file as my .htaccess.

Ok, I put in that .htaccess file
I had to replace the first "RewriteBase BASE/" with
    "RewriteBase /blog/"
    because everything broke

other wise, its exactly as you shared with me.

Now, when I post a comment, I just get a white screen on ../wp-comments-post.php

    thoughts?

Ah, the htaccess changed in more recent versions, as you found out.

    Next issue:
    what theme are you using?
    Are any plugins turned on?
Have you checked your error logs on the server?

When you seen a blank white screen, it is know as the White Screen of Death, or WSOD. Errors are suppressed in mu, or you'd see a line saying exactly what was wrong.

It happens in any of my themes, I have just a few plugins.
    LDAP-Auth, about me, and lightbox.

I'm looking at my error logs now... will repost when I know more.

Turn off all the plugins and try it.

I've turned off all plugins, and I'm still getting the white screen of death.

    thoughts? :)

I'll try making a blog with the default theme, and see where that gets me.

Anyone else got any ideas on this one?

Some additonal info, its under a subdomain
    its behind SSL.

think that might be causing problems?

    solved.
    my <VirtualHost...> had a *:80 in it
    so I changed.
    <VirtualHost *:80>....
    to
    <VirtualHost sub.domain.tld:80>

    and it works now.

    Seriously, I hope this helps.
    Here's some keywords

    white
    white screen of death
    wp-comments-post.php
    virtualhost
    dns
    WSOD
