i've found that if i delete a theme that is in use by a blog, that blog ends up showing as a blank page, is this a known problem or just someting thats happening to me? Is there a way around this?

Well if the theme is *in use* then yeah, there's gonna be a problem...
Do you have a default theme?
(as in a theme in a folder called "default"?)
